  • Sanding (Ozzying): with an osborne brush or buffing pads

  • Media blasting: using corn cob, walnut shells, glass, or baking soda

  • Chemical strippers: for tougher finishes

Proper removal creates a clean “blank canvas” for refinishing and ensures lasting results.

Restoration Timeline

How Long Does Restoration Take?

Restoration typically takes 3–6 weeks, including drying and curing time. Here’s a typical timeline:

  • Finish removal: 3–6 days

  • Washing and drying: 1 day + 2–4 days drying

  • Borate preservative: 1 day + drying time

  • First stain coat: 1–3 days

  • Caulking or chinking: 5–10 days + 3–6 days curing

  • Second stain coat: 1–3 days + drying

  • Topcoat stain: 2–3 days (usually applied in two coats)

  • Window cleaning: 1 day
